The sections below describe data practices that will apply when full account, location, and forecasting features are enabled in a future release. They do not describe behaviour of the current version.
MapleSAP is a mobile application developed by Smokey River Studio, a Canadian software studio. MapleSAP provides weather-informed forecasting tools to help maple syrup producers plan their tapping and harvest activities.
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the choices you have. We comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation.
Plain English: We collect the minimum information necessary to deliver the service. We do not sell your data. We do not use your information for advertising.
MapleSAP may request access to your device location to identify your nearest weather station and deliver region-specific sap forecasts. Location access is optional — you may enter a location manually instead.
We request when-in-use location permission only. We do not request background location access.
When you add a sugar bush, we store its GPS coordinates or named location on our servers, associated with your account. This is used exclusively to:
Sugar bush location data is never shared, sold, or used to infer unrelated personal information.
Forecast data is sourced from third-party meteorological services. When you request a forecast, we transmit your region or coordinates to our weather data provider. We do not transmit your account identity alongside location queries.
Forecast results are cached on our servers to reduce redundant API calls. Cached data is not linked to identifiable user records beyond your region of interest.
MapleSAP may send push notifications for sap-run conditions, freeze/thaw events, and season-ending warm streaks. Push delivery requires a device push token stored on our servers, associated with your account.
You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings or within the app. Disabling notifications does not affect your access to the app.
MapleSAP offers a paid Pro subscription. Billing is handled through the platform's native system:
We do not directly handle or store your payment card details. All billing occurs through Apple or Google's payment infrastructure. We receive confirmation of your subscription status and tier only — not your card number, bank details, or billing address.
We may collect aggregated, non-identifying analytics to understand how the app is used:
Analytics data is not linked to your identity and is not shared with advertising networks.
We do not share personal information with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics platforms that build individual user profiles.
When you delete your account, we permanently delete your email address, sugar bush locations, and all associated data within 30 days.
As a Canadian resident, you have the right to:
MapleSAP is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have done so inadvertently, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the app or email. The updated policy will be posted at this URL with a revised effective date.
